Horsehill Vineyards
Wine Label Rebrand
Horsehill Vineyards is Cal Poly Pomona’s wine label, and it is the essence of the university’s learn-by-doing approach. The grapes are harvested by The College of Agriculture agronomy farm staff and students, sold and served through the Collins College of Hospitality Management, produced and bottled by South Coast Winery in Temecula and in the Spring semester of 2019, five teams of visual communication design students from the College of Environmental Design competed for the winning design for Horsehill Vineyard’s 2017 zinfandel and 2019 rosé labels.

Direction
Horsehill Vineyards wanted their rebrand to reflect Cal Poly Pomona, but at the time this project took place, the university was also going through a major rebrand itself: the iconic CLA building that the I-10 freeway overlooks was set to be torn down, new, futuristic buildings were built, and the school was no longer one of just a few State schools still on the quarter system.
Our team knew that this wine would be consumed by alumnus the most, so we wanted the label to speak to a school that they would recognize, while also honoring the strides Cal Poly was making for the next generation of students.
